Registered Manager – The Office TeamI started working in care when I was studying in college at the age of 17.
In 2011, I was given an opportunity to join a local Homecare provider as a Caregiver. While working for them I also made up my hours by working in local residential homes. I quickly made my way up the business being promoted to Senior Caregiver, Weekend Service Provider, Assistant Care Manager and Manual Handling Trainer. Then in 2015 I was promoted to Care Manager.
I worked there until 2018 when sadly I was made redundant. After working at a couple of other domiciliary companies but not quite fitting in, I received a message from Orla at Right at Home who told me about the Registered Manager opportunity here. The vision and mission of Right at Home is everything that I strive for when supporting my team and clients. I joined in May 2019 and I am loving every moment. My role is always changing and it throws many challenges on a daily basis but that’s why I love it so much.
My nan worked in care for many years before she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Nan lived in her own home until she was too unsafe and went into residential care. Even though she needed care herself, she would still try to support other residents in the home because she cared so much for other people. Mum and I still cared for her even when she moved there and up until her death. I wanted to honour her and her memory by continuing to support people to live as independently as possible and to live their life in the way they want to.
I have always been brought up to treat others how I would like to be treated and being in care enables me to do this and to support my team to do this. Making a difference in people’s lives makes me so happy and that is what I live for and provides my motivation every day!
